Friday, December 25th, 2009
John V. W. Howe asked:

A golf GPS finder can help you zero in on the best golf GPS when you start shopping. There are numerous sites and sources with volumes of information that can overwhelm you. Wouldn’t it be great if you could find one site to help you find the GPS you want for your golf game?

When I find myself in this situation, I go to Amazon.com for my information. Amazon acts as my “finder” for all kinds of items since it presents all the items in one place, sorted in bestselling order so I can tell how other buyers rated the item I am considering buying.

Amazon also allows buyers to write reviews about their GPS. The best reviews about golf GPS are written by golfers. Who can best tell you the pros and cons of a golf GPS than the golfers who use them. These reviews are brutally honest. You will find reviews on any GPS you want on Amazon.

Start using Amazon to find your GPS by going to the Amazon.com home page. You will see two search boxes near the top of the page. Click the left search box. This will open a dropdown box of the departments on Amazon. Click “Electronics” in this dropdown box.

In the right search box, enter golf GPS systems and click the orange “GO” button. This will display all the golf GPS on Amazon. To sort these in best selling order, click on the “Sort by” box on the right side of the page. This will open a dropdown box. Click on “Bestselling” and all of the GPS will be sorted in best selling order.

For detailed product information and customer reviews, click on a GPS on this page and Amazon will display the product page for the particular GPS. This page will show all the product and technical information about the GPS, the price, and the link to the customer reviews.

Golf GPS – Garmin GolfLogix GPS-8

Natty H asked:

With the emergence of the GPS technology, it was only a matter of time before some innovative companies came up with a way to use this on the golf course. Well folks that time is now: several makers have thrown their golf GPS offerings into the ring and one in particular has emerged as a leader, at least in my opinion.

The Garmin GolfLogix GPS-8 is a smooth and simple model. It is a direct competitor with the SkyCaddie but I will tell you why it is better. First of all, everyone knows that Garmin is just a high-quality player in this field. If you have ever used their car units then you probably know what I’m talking about. They just do things in the best possible manner. In a way, they are like the Apple of GPS: very intuitive and user friendly.

The GolfLogix 8 holds twice as many golf courses in its memory at once than the SkyCaddie. And if you happen to be playing a course which is not available for download yet (by now this is improbable) all you have to do is call up Garmin and they will get on top of it real quick. Most reports indicate that the new course will be uploaded for use within about a week of any request.

Finally, we can look at the value of the simplistic design. GolfLogix does not overwhelm a golfer with too many numbers and words on the display. It basically just tells the distance to the front, center, and back of the green from where you are standing. Beyond this, it is water resistant. It is truly a winner.

Garmin Sets the Bar For Golf GPS Systems

Mike Pederson asked:

Garmin golf GPS, the Approach G5, has set the bar for golf GPS systems. Garmin is no stranger to the hand held GPS market and it is only natural that they should enter the Golf GPS market. The Garmin golf GPS unit is a high-end GPS system which delivers high-end quality with loads of useful features.

Like their hiking hand-held unit, the Oregon, the Approach G5 is waterproof and rugged. If you’ve explored other Golf GPS systems you’ll love the fact that the Garmin golf G5 comes with 5000 preloaded courses and includes free lifetime access to Garmin golf Approach G5 course listings. This is their database of thousands of Golf Course Listings throughout the United States. No extra fees no membership needed.

Useful features include Course Preview, which allows you to preview every hole of courses near you or by city or course name. You can keep score with a simple touch entering of score for each member of the foursome. Shot distance allows you to measure each shot and store the data for later review (19th hole bragging rights). Now you can know just how far your really hit each club. You will no longer have to estimate your distance on the driving range.

You can view each green which will give a detailed view of each green in addition to letting you touch and drag the pin to the current pin location. With Touch Distance Targeting you can measures the distance from your location to anywhere on the course.

The Garmin Approach will even tell you how far it is to your selected course. In the preview mode you can select any hole on the course, zoom into the green, drag the pin to its current location and use touch targeting to customized distances. Distances to major hazards and other targets are already listed.

The screen measures 1.53″W x 2.55″H in brilliant color. Distances are easy to read and the high-sensitivity receiver is augmented by WASS for even greater distance accuracy. With the easy to use touch screen and simple to use, intuitive menu and using just two AA batteries, the Garmin Approach G5 has a lot going for it. I particularly like that fact they don’t “nickel dime” you for course layouts.

Using a GPS For Golf

Lawrence Bredenkamp asked:

In this article I will give you 10 benefits of using a GPS for golf. With the rapid development of GPS technology, using a GPS for golf has become very popular throughout the world, and in particular America and Australia.

Why has using a GPS for golf become so popular?

Well quite simply the information you receive from a GPS is both accurate and extremely useful.

When using a GPS for golf you get the following benefits:

Distances from where you are to varying parts of the course and hole in play. This includes the overall length of the hole, the distance to the beginning and end of the fairway. Distances to hazards, both to reach and to carry the hazard, as well as distances to the front, centre and back of the green. All this information is extremely useful and time saving. No more measuring out or guessing of distances. Most Golf GPS models are accurate to within a couple of yards. Get to know how far you hit the ball with each club. A lot of players who have been using a GPS for golf say that this can be quite a humbling experience. Believing that they hit a driver (or any club) a certain distance and then discovering that they in fact don’t hit it that far seems to amaze them. Truth is most amateurs think they hit the ball further than they do. Gain confidence. Knowing the distance that you hit each club gives you an incredible amount of confidence when playing. No longer do you have to worry about a three quarter or “between clubs” shot. This alleviates tension and allows for a smooth swing. Ever wondered why the pros seem to know exactly which club to use and get the distances exactly right? Their caddies are paid to know exactly how far it is to the pin, what clubs they hit that distance and to advise the player accordingly – exactly the information you will get from using a GPS for golf. A Golf GPS is extremely useful when you have hit a wayward shot; say behind some trees, where you would ordinarily have no idea of how far it is to get the ball back into play or to the green. Without a line of sight you can confidently play your shot knowing that your ball will (or should – as you still have to execute the shot) land back in play or where you intended it to go. Play anywhere any time with confidence. If playing at a strange course for the first time or a course that you do not play that often – such as when you are on holiday – you have the advantage of not having to worry about distances. Most GPS models come preloaded with a number of local courses or courses can be downloaded as required. In addition you can ‘map’ or plot your own points on every hole and so customize your GPS specifically for your own use. Using a GPS for golf will speed up play. It is amazing how many players report that this happens. Even one GPS in a four ball seems to speed up play considerably. Shoot lower scores and reduce your handicap. A lot of people who use a GPS for golf say that they have shaved shots off their rounds from the very first time they use a GPS. Quite simply a GPS takes a lot of tension out of the equation and this definitely makes for better scoring. Be the envy of your mates – they’ll all want to play with you. Or more likely want you to help them with their distances. Analyze your round after the game by using the built in statistics available in most GPS models. Enjoy your game more. If you are playing well you will naturally enjoy it more.

So there you have it – 10 benefits to using a GPS for golf. If you haven’t already tried using a GPS for golf do yourself a favor and go out and get one today.
